Host for the season opener – Melbourne, Australia. Relentless heat took its toll on drivers and machines alike.

Trulli, who performed strongly in the first day’s two practice sessions, finishing in tenth and seventh to leave him looking good for qualifying and the race.

Glock, who joined Panasonic Toyota Racing with the GP2 title fresh in his pocket, maintained a top-ten position throughout the first day.

Saturday saw both drivers progress to Q3. Trulli was especially strong, finishing in sixth.

Trulli is joined by the young Timo Glock this season, giving him ample opportunity to use his leadership skills to propel the team in a positive direction.

Despite starting from well back in the field, Glock fought his way up to as high as ninth before a crash brought to an end his debut Formula One race.

Trulli was in running strongly within the points positions before problems with his machine brought his race to an end in the 20th lap.

The gloves are off for the 2008 season. Top on the list for Panasonic Toyota Racing is to free themselves from the stiff competition of the second group.
